Catch Me If You Can

Catch Me If You Can is an edutainment mystery game produced with Unity and the Adobe Creative Suite. This was completed as my final New Media Senior Project at the University of Toronto.

My game was recognized as a finalist of the InterAccess Media Arts Prize 2022, an annual award given to projects completed by graduating New Media students.

You have just been recruited as a detective for a Canadian detective agency. Some criminals are on the loose across the country, and your mission is to catch them before they can get away. Using your knowledge of Canadian geography and trivia, you must travel around the country in pursuit of the criminal, looking for clues on their subsequent whereabouts and gathering information about them to obtain a warrant to arrest them.

The inspiration for this project came from the Carmen Sandiego video game franchise (most popular in the 80s and 90s), as well as my interests in geography and culture.

I really liked the nostalgia of old video games and thought it would be interesting to call back to it by creating a modernized version of Carmen Sandiego, set in Canada. The franchise had not previously created a Canadian version, so I wanted to explore the country I call home through a medium I found compelling.

Before creating the game, I designed a basic initial prototype of the game using Figma to lay out the features and player progression throughout the level. This prototype differs slightly from the final product, but I ensured the four core features (Travel, Inspect, Warrant, Records) remained throughout the game while designing.
